Dragonfly is one of my favorite destinations in Jakarta. Happening crowd, good cocktails and probably the best East-West fusion cuisine in the city. I’ll be back soon.
Good music, and the fusion cuisine in the restaurant is probably one of the best in Jakarta.
Excellent crowd on Wednesday nights – nothing like a good drink at the sleek bar after dinner.
Worst Club in Indonesia…..
I went with 15 Million in my pocket to spend… ok didn’t look the part so wouldn’t let me in… Shit I make more money in a week than there whole security team put together and they give me the look as if to say I don’t earn enough money….
Red Square on the other hand was very happy to welcome my cash!!!
If ya wanna pretend you have money and look the part this is the club for you…
The embarrassing occasion last year was repeated again for twice. Last year, when my fiancé was entertaining his business partners in Dragon fly (Graha BIP Lobby; Jl. Gatot Subroto St Kav. 23 Karet Semanggi, Jakarta Selatan), he asked me to come there. About 22:00 pm, I came there from JW Marriott Hotel – Kuningan. At that time, I was staying in JW Marriott Hotel. The distance between the JW Marriott hotel and Dragon fly is not so far, so I wore some casual clothe; tank top Mango, mini skirt Body and Soul, and shoes Marie Claire (I am really sorry for mentioning the brands which I used. I don’t mean to show them off but I really mean for the good purpose of my letter). I arrived there in a hurry and I entered the entrance but I was halted by some security staff. I thought that they would inspect my handbag that I brought (suppose the brand is “P”).
Actually they didn’t inspect me but they said that I was not allowed to enter. I explained that I have an appointment with my fiancé in that discotheque. However those security staffs convinced that I was not allowed to enter because I wore impolite or sexy clothes. I didn’t know that there was some rule for visitors to wear clothes elegantly.
Then I called my fiancé and I explained that I was in the entrance but I was not allowed to enter because I didn’t wear clothes elegantly. A couple of minute later, my fiancé came from inside and brought his coat for me. We expected that we could enter but I was not allowed to enter as before. Therefore my fiancé taunted with vile language “f*** this place!”. On the contrary, at the same time I saw many girls dressed impolitely. They entered the club easily without being inspected.
Finally we left Dragon fly with embarrassed and disappointed feeling because of this matter in front of my fiancé’s business partners. Then we decided to go to Shangri-La to entertain them. In this place we were welcomed warmly without any single matter.
Based on my matter last year, I tried to dress more elegant when my friend invited me to come to Dragon Fly on Friday, two weeks ago for his birthday party.
I wore an elegant evening dress, a hand bag, branded shoes from Guess. But I still got a trouble there. There were not only one but four security personnel who came to me to forbid me to enter the club. They gave a reason that the guests were limited. I responded emotionally that there were many guests who got in and got out freely but why I did not get an admission to enter. They reasoned that they were in charge to decide who could enter the club. They also added that they had an authority to appraise the properness of guests who could enter or not based on the overall appearance.
Oh God….. then what was wrong with my appearance? If I dressed improperly they should look at the people around them. Whether they dressed more properly than me and why they were allowed to enter easily.
If this place is targeted for high class people, then why they don’t make an announcement in front of the entrance. Therefore, I would not come to the place like this.
If this place is specialized for people who have a huge amount of money, I guarantee that I can pay the beverages that they are used to buying.
If my appearance at that time still remained improperly, I really could change my clothes because I had some clothes in my car. For their knowing that my car was in valley and I had to go out because no admission for me.
I did not mean to disparage people’s status. However it was unexpectedly that some security personnel could say that my car’s valley was out of their concern. They just concerned about my being prohibited to enter the club.
To the management of Dragon Fly,
Is it your trained security personnel’s way to treat us and only appraising based on the appearance? And what kind of way of appearance is necessitated in order to get admission in your club without any single matter with your “entrance keepers” (security personnel) ?
Please accept that for any kind of reason I am not interested again to come to Dragon Fly. Moreover, without me Dragon Fly will always remain to exist.
After this occasion, I heard many similar stories from some friend. This case did not only happen to me, but also to them. Recently I read visitor’s reviews about Dragon Fly JakartaBar. There was an open letter from Mr. Rob on 10 august 2009. He wrote that Dragon Fly was the worst club in Indonesia. (I agree very much with you, Mr. Rob!)
Is this embarrassing occasion still supposed to be common in Dragon Fly? Regarding to its statement to be a Special Jakarta Bar.
To the security personnel of Dragon Fly,
If you really selected the guests to be allowed to enter or not in Dragon Fly, so why didn’t you better inspect all of the wallet’s content?. Therefore you knew precisely how much money I brought and make a comparison with your own money.
man… when i go clubbing i usually go out in what is most comfortable but still looks good. but i guess jeans and t-shirt wasn’t good enough. but the clothing i was wearing cost over 500 usd so i don’t know wtf. i really was going to splash out there seeing its my first time in jakarta meh i dont give a shit anyway just went somwhere else. if its that high class shit all the bitches there are probably gold digging whores anyway
The worst club in Jakarta/Indonesia. Susie don’t worry, u didn’t miss anything. The place is only for “hookers” to sell to bule anyway. Please tell your friends not to go there anymore…they are so arrogant, but the place sucks big time.

All said and done, I still think the food at Dragonfly pretty good, and if that’s the only reason to visit I would still go.

stupid guard said i wasn’t wearing fashionably for a female and I will not be allowed to enter! Hey, WTF they know!!! Must be a hooker place! I was tastefully dress according to my style, and who are they to judge whether my dressing is fashionable or not? Maybe i wasn’t dress like a “bitch”! I hope they review thier system.
